We are reporters and investigative journalists who built some of the best independent media in Russia, now continuing our work in exile.

The publication Proekt was founded in 2018 and specializes in investigative journalism. We take on the most difficult topics and report on what is really happening in Russia and why. After the outlet was designated an “undesirable organization” by Russian state in 2021, the Proekt team began working in exile.

Proekt’s founder and editor-in-chief is Roman Badanin, the recipient of numerous Russian and international journalism awards. In the past, Badanin headed media outlets that held leading positions in their fields, including the TV channel Rain, RBC, Forbes Russia and others. The rest of the team consists of top-tier investigative reporters who previously worked for the best independent Russian and international media outlets.
